Emerging Exporters Program

The City of Gold Coast’s Emerging Exporters Program assists businesses to develop export capabilities and explore international markets.

Who should attend the free training program?

This program is developed for Gold Coast businesses, new to export, and emerging exporters breaking into new markets and channels overseas. This program will enable business owners and staff of small and large companies to develop the skills and knowledge to develop and implement an export plan.

The Emerging Exporters Program – Exporting Online supports business owners to develop and grow export sales through online channels and e-commerce platforms. In the past five years, one of the biggest changes to growth in international sales has been through online e-commerce channels.

Program dates

The Exporting Online Program is free for Gold Coast businesses. This four part series of training is delivered fortnightly from April to May and will provide businesses with the tools and skills to grow Business to Business (B2B) and Business to Consumer (B2C) export sales.

Guest speakers include Amazon, Rakuten, Careplus and DHL. Sessions are delivered by local digital agency, Blirt.

Session one – Amazon and export to the USA

Session two – Selling to China and Japan – Rakuten and China Platforms update

Session three – Driving international traffic and sales to your website

Session four – Using technology to drive bigger product launches overseas

 

Session one – Amazon and export to the USA

Amazon generated about 60 per cent of total USA online sales growth in 2015. They now sell B2B and B2C, many exporters now leverage the platform to find distributors and build direct to customer sales.

Amazon will give a rundown of how best to leverage the platform and will answer the following:

  1. Amazon fulfilment vs DIY or 3PL – pros and cons of each
  2. Charge backs and fraud – what can the seller to mitigate the risk
  3. IP management and dispute resolution
  4. The importance of customer reviews and tips to handle them
  5. Tips to increase conversion including best practice listing and optimisation

Session two – Selling to China and Japan

Careplus, a NSW state Export Award winner, will give a practical insight into their experiences in the Chinese e-commerce market, and a senior Rakuten representative will provide an update on the same platform for Japan.

Key topics to be addressed:

  1. An update on which platforms in China offer the best opportunities
  2. Emerging trends – regulations and tax applied by Chinese Government
  3. Lessons from Bellamys – how not to handle Daigou. What could have been done?
  4. Steps to determine market viability and prepare for entry

Session three – Driving international traffic and sales to your website

This session will focus on B2B sales and developing sales leads with distributors and end retailers.

Key topics to be addressed:

  1. Country specific webpages- a different sales and call to action messages
  2. Redirecting international traffic – per country and language
  3. How to optimise small parcel delivery – presented by DHL (guest speaker)
  4. Payment options per country
  5. Fees and currency conversion

Session four – Using technology to drive bigger product launches overseas

With a focus on B2B sales this session will show you how to use technology to drive more awareness and sales for overseas product launches.

  1. Drive more distributor leads
  2. Increase awareness and traffic at trade shows
  3. Automating the lengthy follow up from events
  4. Product on shelves – driving consumer demand
  5. Training overseas partners with video and automation
